Need to find Attorneys?

The views expressed about Attorneys should not be construed as legal advice. Speak to your attorney before acting on anything.
There are literally thousands of Attorneys to choose from - this is great - but too much choice can be overwhelming!
- Attorneys are - also known as lawyers, solicitors and barristers (in a general sense). It is in fact a term that is more commonly used in the USA, South Africa and one or two other countries.
- You can find attorneys in the Law Society database - Your local Law Society has listings for all the Attorneys and can tell you where their offices are, what areas of the law they practices in and whether that lawyer has been the subject of disciplinary proceedings. This is an important background check and if, for instance, your lawyer has had any complaints filed against him or her then you now know about it.
- Before you decide on your attorney look at the cases they have appeared in - Another fairly easy step is to go to Austlii.edu.au and do a search for the name of your attorney to see what cases he or she has appeared in. Whilst you may not want to grapple with the legal issues involved in the case you should make sure you know who the lawyer acted for and what the outcome was. This is a great way to determine whether or not this particular lawyer is a WINNER!
- Compare lawyers in terms of price and experience - Now that you know which Attorneys you are interested in go to Getalawyer.com.au and upload your problem, by either staying anonymous or by asking for a conflicts search (checking the lawyer can act for you). Once you have created a profile invite the lawyers whom you are interested in to compete for your work and if they enter your contest you will be able to find out, in a general sense, what you may be charged and why that lawyer considers his or her experience to be relevant.
- Rate your lawyer - At the conclusion of your case, or at any time before then, why not rate your lawyer so other users of the site can have the benefit of your experience?
